Last week the NZN met to hear from Mike Wake, of the Green Energy Company, and Mark Reynolds, Chair of Australian Flow Batteries Pty Ltd (AFB) on why vanadium redox flow batteries (VRFB) offer an enticing alternative to lithium ion batteries in stationary applications.
Mike took us on a rapid and engaging tour of the technology, how it's developed over time, and the promise it offers for the future. The technology is matured, proven and cost-effecitve over the life of the battery. Perhaps surprisingly, they are offering the batteries at both commercial and residential scale as lithium ion alternatives.
Lots of questions from the audience and a good discussion that continued into the pub afterwards indicate a talk well received! Thanks to Mike and Mark for generously sharing their time with the NZN. A video recording of the talk will be uploaded to the NZN YouTube channel and website soon.

I find it far too easy to slip into despair about the ongoing non-action on climate change by those in power. Hanging out with those who are actively creating the solutions to climate here in Western Australia is good for my mental health.
